2026 WATER TARIFF INCREASES – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Jan 19, 2026 | All News

Indicative figures for 2026 water tariffs suggest an average increase of around 8% from April, although the true impact will vary significantly by region and customer type.

Some wholesalers are forecasting rises of up to 20% or more for certain users, with changes differing between water and wastewater services. For example:

  • Thames Water: +10% water, -3.9% waste
  • Severn Trent: +4.2% water, +11.9% waste
  • Southern Water: +18.4% water, -5.4% waste

The picture is complex, with many large-user and tariff-specific changes still under review. Inflation forecasts (CPIH 3.5–3.8%) and potential CMA decisions may further influence outcomes before the new tariffs take effect in April 2026.

We recommend that clients review water budgets now and allow for variation where possible. Our team can support with budget forecasting and water procurement strategy to help mitigate the impact of these increases.
