On 5th June 2021, people from all over the world will be completing tasks and activities to raise action and awareness for the protection of our environment.
At Carbonxgen, we are committed to restoring, protecting and future-proofing our environment, and that’s why every year we participate in this important movement. This year is no different.
2021’s theme is Ecosystem Restoration, so we have been thinking about how significant wildflowers are to our ecosystem. In the UK, we need a wide variety of wildflowers to provide pollinators (for example, bees, flies, bats and small mammals) with local food sources across the seasons. Not only do wildflowers provide food and breeding space to pollinators and insects, but their seeds are a vital food source for birds in the winter too.
It is not just pollinators that rely on these plants, we need wildflowers in our ecosystem to thrive. Staggeringly, it is estimated that a third of our food is pollination dependent. We rely on wildflowers to perpetuate the pollination cycle so that we can maintain food security and sustainable farming.
This week we asked our staff to get out their green fingers and plant wildflowers and other pollinator flowers in their gardens, balconies or outdoor spaces, to encourage the natural maintenance of our local ecosystems, and to raise awareness in a fun and engaging way.
Take a look at some of their gardening in action!
We can all play our part in helping to restore our environment. Together let’s be the #GenerationRestoration
