Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)
Embracing SECR compliance will unlock the power of data
to disclose carbon
1st April 2019
The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework is a compliance requirement introduced in 2019.
Qualifying companies are now legally required to disclose their energy and carbon emissions from 1st April 2019, covering financial reporting years starting on or after this date.
The first companies who will need to comply will, therefore, be those whose financial year ends on 31st March 2020, with the other qualifying companies closely following suit.
SECR applies to all UK Incorporated quoted companies, and any ‘Large’ unquoted companies and LLPs*
*please note: some exemptions do apply

What needs reporting?
Qualifying companies must report on their energy usage, GHG emissions and an intensity metric; disclosing the methodology used to calculate these and importantly, any energy efficiency measures taken during the financial year being reported.
How will it impact your business?
Compliance is often seen as a distraction to business. To unlock its potential you must embrace it.
Companies which fall within the scheme need to ensure that they are collecting the required data with a robust data management system in place to guarantee that the accuracy and transparency required under the regulations is met.
