Happy New Year to you all! Yes, we have had a bit of a false start to the year, but as I look back on what we have learned in 2020 there are so many positives that we will take forward. We have a renewed gratitude for all the NHS and care workers that have always worked tirelessly to keep us safe, but whose efforts had often gone under the radar in the past.
The sense of togetherness which has returned to our communities. The scientists that have worked miracles to bring a vaccine which will, in time, allow us to physically come back together. What a year 2020 was! We will move on, but we must not forget what we have learned.
2020 also delivered Government sustainability pledges around ending support for overseas fossil fuel projects, to cut carbon emissions by at least 68% by the end of 2030, and delivery of the Energy White Paper which sets out policy as to how the UK can decarbonise. All fantastic pledges, but pledges alone will not bring results – we must take action.
The grass has not grown under our feet. We have been in the very fortunate position to be able to develop our team in 2020. We have worked on research and development projects which have defined our roadmap for a sustainable and resilient future bringing together a suite of services providing resilient solutions for the built environment. 2020 gave us the time and motivation to delineate our future. In the climate we are in, and with the backdrop of so many businesses which have unfortunately had to close their doors in 2020, this is time that we will make count.
2021 simply must be a year of action – after all, the climate crisis cannot be cured by vaccination! Many of our clients have already started to take matters into their own hands by setting their own Net Zero Carbon targets ahead of any government legislation. Stay safe and stay well!
