What an eventful month November has been! Another lockdown, awaiting decisions about Christmas gatherings, the new tier system and let’s not forget that Brexit is still on the horizon, should leave me lacking in the festive season spirit. And yet, I feel fortunate to even be having to think about which members of my family I can see over Christmas when there are so many that will not have such an option.
I also feel grateful, eternally grateful, to the amazing scientists that have worked tirelessly to develop a vaccine which brings hope at Christmas.
I do, however, feel sad that I cannot thank our fabulous staff and clients with the usual Christmas festivities. I so love this time of year, but with a team of people that thrive in each other’s company and enjoy spending time sociably together it will make the end of the year more difficult to celebrate, yet no less important to do so. When we are through this pandemic (and we will, one day, be through this), we will celebrate together!
Despite this, November has been an exciting month at Carbonxgen. We have been extremely fortunate to be able to expand our team, bringing new members to our Procurement, Occupier Recharges, Bill Validation, and Client Management Teams. We have also completed an office refurbishment that enhances our environment and incorporates the usual desk-space with improvements including standing desks, a range of different collaboration spaces, improved lighting, and greenery to promote a healthy environment. In addition to this, in order to support a Covid-safe environment that will enable our staff to return safely when Government restrictions allow, we have replaced our ventilation systems, installed facial recognition entry with temperature scanning, virus-safe hand driers and hand-washing stations. This, alongside other measures, will ensure that staff returning to our workspace can do so assured that they are as safe as we can make them. In all honesty, this is probably the greatest recognition we could give to our team at Christmas. Letting them know that, despite a difficult year, their wellbeing has remained paramount and that we can combine a collaborative workplace with a way of working which retains the work-life balance achieved through this year.
I am also proud to announce that we have been shortlisted in two categories at the 2020 TELCA Awards. The Wellbeing Award, which recognises businesses that go the extra mile for their employees, and the Diversity Pioneers Award, which celebrates those companies that make their working environment inclusive for all to succeed. These nominations are ones close to the heart of the Management Team at Carbonxgen as they reinforce our message that “our team is our greatest asset”.
Through all of this positivity it is not lost on me that there are many less fortunate at this time. Many have lost their jobs or have lost family members due to COVID-19. These remain sad and challenging times and, as always, I thank our clients and our staff for their continued support and commitment to our business and to each other. Remember – if you are positive, you will see opportunities rather than obstacles!
Stay safe and stay well!
